When an idea for a new project sparks your interest, it’s exciting, inspiring, and sometimes overwhelming. It’s easy to jump in headfirst without fully considering the impact, the intention, or the potential it holds. To help guide you in making this new project a meaningful endeavor, I’ve compiled five reflective questions that I ask myself before diving in.

What is this idea, really?

Before diving into any project, take a moment to define what the idea truly is. It may feel like an abstract vision, but can you describe it clearly to a friend or a colleague? This is the time to clarify what your concept entails and put it into words. This process helps ground the idea, making it more tangible and giving it a strong foundation.

Why did this idea choose you?

There’s something magical about the moment when an idea comes to us. But why you, specifically? What personal experiences, values, or skills do you bring that make you the perfect person to bring this project to life? Reflect on why this project resonates with you and what unique perspective you can offer.

How is it relevant now?

Timing is everything. Is this project aligned with what’s happening in your life or the world at this moment? Consider how your idea fits into the current landscape, and whether it can meet a present need or desire. Thinking about the timing can help you align your project with the right moment, increasing its potential impact.

Who does it help?

Whether it’s a small group or a broader audience, understanding who your project is meant to serve is key. Take a step back and ask yourself: Whose life will be improved by this project? What problem does it solve or what joy does it bring? When you can clearly see the people you’re helping, it gives your project a purpose beyond just its creation.

What else do you need to know?

Finally, give yourself space to ask additional questions. What information or skills do you still need? What resources could support you? Before setting off, take a moment to listen to your intuition and check in with yourself. These final reflections can help ensure you’re prepared and ready for the journey ahead.

And What Comes After?

After you’ve asked yourself these questions, remember that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Creativity is a process that unfolds step by step. Allow yourself the space to explore, adapt, and ask new questions along the way. Most importantly, trust your instincts and enjoy the process.
